Piolo Trends On Twitter For Touching Portrayal Of Selfless Father On MMK

Piolo Pascual earned praise on social media for his riveting performance on “Maalala Mo Kaya.”

In an episode of the drama anthology that aired Saturday, Pascual played the role of Ryan Arebuabo, otherwise known as the “selfless father.”

Arebuabo first caught the Internet’s attention when someone photographed him as he sat and simply watched his daughters enjoy a fried chicken meal at a fast-food chain.

The image was that of a father who put his daughters’ happiness before him despite being down on their luck.

The photo went viral when it began to circulate around the Web in March.

The episode showed how Arebuabo, driven to give his daughters a better life, battled through the ill effects of a debilitating stroke. 

Pascual’s portrayal of Arebuabo was so gripping it trended high among local topics on Twitter.

Throughout the episode – titled “Upuan” – the hashtag #MMKSelflessFather was constantly at the top of the local trending topics on the microblogging site.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News prior to the airing of the episode, Pascual acknowledged that he was inspired by Arebuabo’s perseverance and his love for his children.

“Ang takeaway ko dito, when we become a parent, our life is not ours anymore. Hindi mo na solo yung buhay mo. It’s all about serving your family, your kids and making it better for them,” Pascual said.

It has been five years since Pascual last appeared in an episode of “MMK.”
