MRT 3 Cleaners Earn P83,000 Monthly Salary During Aquino Administration

After examining the contract with Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 service provider Busan Universal Rail Inc. (BURI), Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Party List Representative Jericho Nograles found out that cleaners of the new trains of the Light Rail Vehicles of MRT 3 earn P83,566.00 monthly salary during the Aquino administration.

The lawmaker wants to stop the contract approved by former Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya as soon as possible.

The contract allots P18,050,000.00 to the six workers whose job is to clean the 43 LRV or trains for three years, or P6,016,800.00 per year.

The salary for the workers then is higher as compared to the P40,000.00 to P60,000.00 per month earned by bank managers or the P83,000.00 earned by government’s Director II as per an Abante Tonite story.

“The BURI contract is a midnight deal riddled with graft and unsigned by the appropriate authorities should be scrapped right away,” said Nograles.

He further said that the contract does not only irk the government but taxpayers too who pay the company.

Furthermore, Nograles said BURI is not doing its job to fix MRT 3 service because glitches always happen on the transport system affecting commuters.

“The DOTC entered into this BURI maintenance service contract and Dalian Locomotive supply contracts with so much hassle to the point of disregarding national interest and public welfare,” the lawmaker stated.

“Now we are paying for the previous administration’s sins. This should stop now. No more payments until the procurement laws are followed correctly,” he added.
