Marawi Concert For A Cause All Set On Independence Day

A concert for a cause dubbed as “One Love One Mindanao Help Marawi” is set to take the stage on Monday, June 12 at Rizal Park in time for the celebration of Independence Day to gather any form of donation to assist the affected residents of the close to three weeks armed conflict in Marawi City.

Hope Hernandez, one of the organizers of the concert, invited the public to take part of the initiative that seeks to collect in-kind donations to be delivered to the evacuees as well as those who are trapped in the armed encounter between the government troops and Maute Group who pledge allegiance with the Islamic State of the Iraq and Syria (Isis).

“One Love One Mindanao Help Marawi City Concert for a cause is organized by the different Davao-based non-profit and civic organizations and volunteers. We come together to spearhead a fund-raising drive for the victims and evacuees of the recent Marawi City siege,” she said.

According to her, this is their second effort to gather aids after they delivered the first batch of donations and relief goods direct to Marawi City last June 3 in cooperation of the Civil Military Office of the 10th Infantry Division (ID) of the Philippine Army.

She underscored that the concert, which will start at 6 p.m., is free admission.

Several homegrown talents will perform including the 10th ID Agila Band, Jeramie Sanico Tawag ng Tanghalan, a Mindanaoan Artist, Jaz Up Dance Crew, Jawa Jive Artist and more.

They also welcome other groups who want to showcase their talents to entertain the crowd.

“We will be playing good music, the music that will remind us of our freedom and of our love of country. Music calling for unity in Mindanao, music that will remind us all that we are Filipinos, we are brothers and sisters regardless of our religions, tribes and beliefs,” Hernandez said.

The attendees are encouraged to bring their donations such as food, clothing and medical assistance.

For monetary donations, she assured that they will uphold transparency in the collection and vowed that it will be utilized for its appropriate usage.

There are items and merchandises that will be sold where the 80 percent of the proceeds will go to the Marawi City evacuees.
