BPI Issues What-To-Do Guideline, Guarantees Money Back To All Affected Clients
Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Senior Vice President
Cathy Santamaria has released a guideline for clients whose accounts had been
affected by unauthorized withdrawals:
- Don’t panic and withdraw your money, as it is just there (the real amount will show up after BPI fixes the glitch).
- If extra money (more than what’s due) has been credited to your account, don’t withdraw it. The excess will be returned following the repair of the glitch or will be charged against your account (in case you take it out).
- Don’t post your personal or account information online as unscrupulous parties may exploit this incident for their scamming operations.
- Remain vigilant and remember that BPI does not ask for online information.
- Check issuances will be processed one-on-one personally at the bank.
- Withdraw only the money that belongs to you. Also, don’t hesitate to seek help from BPI’s personnel if you feel something’s wrong with your account.
“We are also asking you to be patient. We will solve it
within the day. There are some clients whose accounts have already been
corrected. Some clients’ accounts are still being processed. At the end of the
day, the balance will be the same,” she told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
She also denied it was a hacking scam as being spread on
social media, saying there was merely a glitch in the system which they are now
in the process of fixing.
“There’s a lot of rumor about it being a hacking or scam.
Let me emphasize that it has nothing to do with that. We at BPI have the
highest security standards and we make sure that all our processes are of the
highest level,” she said.
