Philippines Dominates El Salvador, Exits On High Note In FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2017
The Philippines closed out its FIBA 3x3 World Cup stint with
a 21-14 victory over El Salvador in Nantes, France, Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila
time).
At the completion of its Pool B schedule, the Filipinos
finished with a 2-2 record and a 67-60 lead in points scored over the hosts,
who still had one game in hand.
To advance, the Filipinos had hoped Romania would upset
France in the day’s final game and that France would not score more than 7
points, two propositions that were essentially long shots.
Against Romania, France got off to a rousing start and
scored its 8th point with 6:55 left in the clock, effectively dashing the
Philippines’ slim hopes.
France beat Romania 21-12.
Jeron Teng and Kiefer Ravena each had 7 points, while JR
Quiñahan contributed 4 and Kobe Paras 3 for the Philippines, which ended up 3rd
in its pool.
Slovenia took 1st place in the group with 82, followed by
France (81), the Philippines, Romania (61) and El Salvador (48), which wound up
winless in 4 games.
The men’s quarterfinal pairings feature the Netherlands vs.
Russia, Slovenia vs. Qatar, Ukraine vs. France, and Serbia vs. the United
States.
