Marawi Crisis Victims Can Avail P10,000 Financial Aid From Duterte Gov’t
Monetary assistance will be granted by the Department of
Justice (DOJ) to the soldiers killed and wounded as well as civilians, who were
harmed and displaced by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City.
DOJ Undersecretary Reynante Orceo, who recently made a short
visit to the 84 wounded soldiers at the army hospital in Camp Evangelista,
Cagayan de Oro City, said the Duterte government is ready to facilitate
financial aid of P10,000 each to the war victims and soldiers that can also be
claimed by their immediate families.
The move, Orceo said, is pursuant to Republic Act 7309 or
the “Act creating a board of claims under the Department of Justice for Victims
of unjust imprisonment or detention and victims of violent crimes for other
purposes.”
“This is monetary and the maximum that we can give is ten
thousand per person,” Orceo said.
According to Orceo, the Cagayan de Oro City prosecutor’s
office will be the temporary processing center for this financial assistance.
The requirements for the affected civilians and soldiers,
who died are authenticated copies of the death certificate and police or
autopsy report that can be pertinent proof that the death is connected to the
Marawi siege.
For other cases such as serious physical or psychological
injuries, permanent incapability or disability, insanity, abortion, serious
trauma, or ordeals with torture, cruelty, and barbarity, the victims may
present a true copy of medical or psychiatric certificate and the corresponding
receipts.
This should be presented together with a duly accomplished
application form provided by the processing center.
Orceo also assured that their office will make sure that the
processing time for this financial grant will not take too long for the
victims.
“We lowered and relaxed the required documents so that the
victims will not have a hard time in claiming what’s due them,” Orceo said.
