Affected Residents By Road Widening For Davao Port Project To Get New Homes From Malaysian Firm

Davao City Councilor Edgar Ibuyan Jr. said that a Malaysian company is proposing to build tenement houses for those who will be affected in the road widening for the 200-hectare Davao Coastline and Port Development Project proposed by the Mega Harbour that covers areas from the Sta. Ana Port to Bucana.

“We have (a proposal) from the Mercury Group in Malaysia under PPP (public-private partnership) to develop Isla Verde down to Trading Boulevard in which they plan to develop,” Ibuyan Jr. said.

The residents will be assured that there will be no displacement, just an improvement from the present houses to tenements.

He added that if such project will be pursued, the reclamation project and construction of the tenement houses will be done side by side.

Davao City Councilor Jesus Joseph Zozobrado said that the proposed reclamation area will not greatly affect residents because it is in another island.

He said that the road widening has predicted effect on the residents on the area, and this was being considered.

He said that relocation areas were also prepared in case there will be a need to find such for the settlers.
